U11 A&B Rugby v Fettes
A won 4-3, B won 7-5
On a mild, overcast day that was perfect for rugby, we enjoyed a great afternoon of competitive sport with our friends along the road at Fettes. The A team took a while to warm up and started nervously. A bit ponderous in defence, we allowed the Fettes boys to run and we let in a couple of tries. Some superb cover tackles from Cody kept us in the game during the first half. We gathered ourselves well, though, inspired by some dedicated, skilful play by Tom and some straight-up hard tackles from Thabo. Once we found our groove, we played some good rugby. Some oppressive defence, particularly in the second half, gave Fettes little room with the ball. In attack we looked towards the space and passed well. Some nice runs from Adam could have led to more scores if a bit more support was there. Improved shape and organisation were good to see. Lots more to come from this talented group.
Our B team started much more confidently than their pals in the A team and scored some strong tries in the opening minutes. Will showed his strength with some determined runs. Our first-up tackling was good in patches but faded a little in the second half, allowing the Fettes boys back into the match. Some brave and committed tackling from the captain, Oliver, kept his team in the lead and inspired his players. Harry and Hayden looked dangerous with the ball when they came on in the second half. Well played boys.
