Under-10 B’s and C’s vs Stewart’s Melville College
Three Under-10 teams travelled away to play against Stewart’s Melville College.
The B team got off to a strong start, scoring a try the opening minute. The opposition responded immediately with a try of their own. The match continued in this vein as both teams struggled defensively and scoring was a little too easy.
In the second half, Cargilfield employed better structure in defence, holding their line and their width, trusting their teammates a little more. This allowed them to repel a couple of attacks and they soon found themselves leading on the score sheet. As it was hot day, both teams began to flag a little near the end but Cargilfield managed to keep up the tempo enough to secure a win by two tries. A competitive match with great play from both sides.
The C team showed tremendous commitment in their match, having to deal with some fast runners and great passing. The boys attacked well though, with James and Joseph leading the way in attack. The other boys provided excellent support to the player on the ball and they were able to keep the ball moving through the hands with reasonable fluidity.
In defence, they were a little vulnerable; although they tackled well, lack of structure resulted in lots of space out wide which the opposition could easily exploit. The SMC team earned a well-deserved win by three tries in a twenty-one try match but a fine effort nevertheless from the Cargilfield boys.
