On a cold and wintry afternoon on the astro, the 3rd hockey put in a very strong and steadfast performance against Belhaven securing a narrow but well-deserved win. The teams were evenly matched from the outset and the play was even with some great attacking from Belhaven, which was ably defended by Cicely and Annabella who did a great job in defence. Iona managed to keep a clean sheet in goal in the first half. Lots of running from the midfield players and a first goal from Cargilfield as Malayka was able to tap in the ball from close range after a run of dominant play. Shortly after this, Georgia plugged away and it was third time lucky after 2 saved shots. Great work in the middle from Cara and Matilda passing the ball forward and a standout performance from Rose who was running everywhere putting in some great passes. With Ruby strong up front in the second half and Wendy making good midfield passes, the girls continued to play well and managed to hold off Belhaven until mid-way through this half. Belhaven had a good run of play and managed to score two goals on bounce. This could have been more but Cicely was immense in defence supported by Lulu and Arya who managed some great saves too to prevent the gap closing. Georgia achieved her hat trick with another goal in the second half and a final Belhaven goal was scored in the last few seconds to make it 4 -3. Well done girls, a great team effort and a super win. Everyone played their hearts out.
