U11A Hockey beat George Watson’s

Lots of promise for next term!

Cargilfield 6 – George Watson’s College 2

We have one session of hockey each week in the rugby term and the traditional final Wednesday of the term is often a hockey match against George Watson’s.  The first half of the seven a side game today was one of extremely high quality.  We passed the ball around with power and slickness and our attack was formidable with Cody pulling the strings in midfield and bringing every forward player around him into the game.  James was on the right and found a lot of space in the wider areas.  He drove at goal and gave us plenty of opportunity to score some goals.  Tom was lively on the left and also kept his width very well.  Harry was solid in defence and made a number of crucial tackles.  Charlie, our slightly more attack minded defender played some terrific cross pitch passes which allowed us to turn defence into attack quickly.  Thomas had very little to do in the first half other than a brilliant save from a one on one situation but was much more involved in the second and the two he let in were as a result of perhaps our defenders being too high up the pitch.  Oliver played across the midfield and linked up well with his more central and defensive team mates; however, he wasn’t afraid to take on his opposite man and showed some particularly good dribbling skill.  Charles had spells up front and at the back and did well in both positions as did Cameron who actually impressed at the back with some nice wins in one on one situations.

The intensity was difficult to maintain in the second half but as we were 4-0 up, we began being a bit too cute with the chances we had.  Their goalkeeper had an excellent game but we could have made it harder for him by trying to deflect the shots past him.  Player of the match was Cody for his goal scoring and his energy on the field but everyone put in a great performance and it sets us up for what should be an exciting Spring term.  Well done everyone and thanks to GWC for having us.
