U10 Rugby lost to Loretto

U10 Rugby lost to Loretto

A good game of touch rugby!

The U10’s arrived early, had a sterling warm up, which was required as it was blowing a hooley and the rain was lashing down. Stuart Reid captained the team with William Orr supporting him as VC. The drills were as slick as the wet ball and the boys felt confident. Thankfully the weather did not put off the U10’s large following. Our fan base appears to be getting larger by the week. The side line was rocking by kick off.

Cargilfield started and attacked straight away with good passing from Salman and Ethan. We moved the ball across the field to Stuart Reid who attacked out wide. We moved it back again with Willam and Michael both trying to break through the Loretto defence, unfortunately with little success. Loretto defended well. With the first turn over, Loretto swept the ball across the field and with strong runners and excellent handling especially in the wet conditions they scored. Cargilfield knew they were in for a tough afternoon.

Time and again we attacked with Salman, William, Stuart and Michael all running hard but we struggled to breach the Loretto defence. Ethan and Finlay came into the game more trying to find the gap but Loretto never missed a tackle and pinned us in our own half. When we turned the ball over Loretto seemed to score a will.

We regrouped at half time. I asked to see some real fighting spirit from the boys and that is exactly what they give. Loretto started the 2nd half as strongly as they had finished the 1st but this time we defended for our lives. Salman and Ethan led by example making multiple tackles and forcing turn overs. As the 2nd half develop we found our confidence in attack breaking out wide, again with Stuart, Ethan, Michael and Willaim constant threats, even Freddie was beating defenders. We have to give Loretto credit they defended well throughout until the closing stages were our constant pressure eventually paid off and Michael scored in the corner with the final play.

Loretto were strong and deserved winners but the Cargilfield spirit was shown through on the day. A big thank you to Loretto for hosting us and providing us with a delightful match tea.
