Having trained hard over the last couple of weeks and learnt the basics of rugby, the boys were very eager to have their first competitive match. They looked very smart in their kilts did Cargilfield proud in the way they conducted themselves on their first away match.
Stripes: Lost 4-3
I was pleased how the boys improved throughout the match and got used to working as a team, having only started practising match situations on Monday. They took on board the advice given to them and tightened up their defence in the second half. I was very pleased with their tackling and the pressure they put on the opposition. It was good to see them learn during the match to use the space available to them rather than just running into the opposition. An area that I would like them to improve on during training is to make sure that in defence they cover all areas of the pitch rather than being moths to a flame so that the opposition cannot simply run through big gaps.
Well done, boys!
