U11B Boys Cricket v Loretto
Lost by 18 runs
The Under-11B boys travelled down to Melrose to take on St. Mary's in a soft ball pairs match on a lovely summer day.
The result of the toss was that Cargilfield would field first. Benji, who was captain for the day, partnered up with Charlie, and they bowed well between them. Benji took two wickets and Charlie took one during their allocation of overs. Magnus and Raffi also contributed well with Magnus claiming two wickets and Raffi three. George and Ensay bowled quite economically but the batsmen they faced managed to keep their wickets successfully. Ben and Ezra completed the innings, managing a wicket between them. Ezra and Benji were the pick of the bowlers - demonstrating excellent accuracy.
Our batting wasn't quite at the same level as our bowling - many of the strikes were good but the placement was not careful enough, so fielders could prevent meaningful runs being scored. We also gave away four runouts, at a total cost of 20 runs, which could all have been avoided had communication between partners been clearer. The boys therefore fell 18 runs short of the target and were left to rue what might have been.
Despite the loss, the boys should be proud of their efforts, particularly the bowling and fielding which were top-notch.
