U11 Boys lost to Ardvreck

U11 Boys lost to Ardvreck

A good effort from a young team

U11A Cricket v Ardvreck

Lost by 8 wickets

Our usual team was somewhat depleted by matches elsewhere but this gave a sizable number of our Form 5 boys a chance to step into the breach- some of whom were cutting their teeth on hard ball cricket for the first time.

Having lost the toss, the boys took up the bat. Nick and Hugo volunteered their services to open the batting and saw out the first couple of overs safely before both eventually succumbing to straight middle stump deliveries. Of our line-up, Archie had the most productive innings, scoring 37 runs before he also was bowled. In fact, all of the 9 batsmen who lost their wickets were bowled - something that doesn't happen very often! Michael and Daniel put up a good fight. Michael scoring 11 in his innings and Daniel was our last man standing. All in all, the team posted 79 runs for their 20 overs. Not a high total but certainly defendable.

After tea, Archer bowled the first over really well and this was followed by 3 more miserly overs from Harry, David and Arran. Harry took a wicket in his first over. This was followed by a dropped catch - the first of two off the same batsman, who became Ardvreck's top scorer with 8 boundaries to his name. Our fielding standard dropped from the 9th over and four high scoring overs later Ardverck had reached the total. On the positive side, Archie bowled a wonderful wicket-maiden, his left-hand seam deliveries were all problematic for the batsman.

Well done though to all the boys for their effort on the day - there are some learning points to take away but the boys can hold their heads high for a competitive performance. Lots of talent for next year!
