It was a hot day for our season opener, as we faced Fettes at home on the Cargilfield pitch. We started the match brightly, with Scarlett making a dynamic run down the right wing, winning us a short corner. Athena capitalized on the opportunity, scoring to give us an early 1-0 lead. However, Fettes responded quickly and effectively, maintaining excellent shape and exploiting pockets of space that put our defenders under pressure. Their resilience paid off as they scored two quick goals, shifting the momentum and taking a 2-1 lead into halftime.

We regrouped for the third quarter, showing greater composure and energy. Although Fettes managed to extend their lead with another goal, we quickly responded with a goal of our own, narrowing the scoreline to 3-2 and reigniting our hopes. The final quarter was a thrilling, end-to-end contest, with both teams fighting hard until the last whistle. In a dramatic finish, we thought we had secured a draw, but Fettes managed to find the back of the net one last time, sealing a 4-3 victory.

Despite the narrow defeat, it was an exciting game and a valuable learning experience to kick off our season. The match highlighted areas for improvement, particularly in defence and composure under pressure, and we're determined to work on these as we move forward.
