U11B Rugby v Fettes
What a glorious day for rugby. Two U11B teams took to the field to play 20 minutes each against Fettes U11B and managed quick 10 minute game against each other which ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the first match, Benji led the red team to a terrific 6-3 victory. Top tacklers were Ethan and William who covered so much ground and were committed at every contact situation. Our fliers were Teddy Be and Jamie D who scored a hat trick in the opening half. James R had a great game, running some hard lines and getting stuck in to tackle. Innes didn’t hold back either and got involved at the break down a lot and enjoyed a great deal of possession but was not greedy and looked to pass the ball to his team mates. Arran held his position really well on the wing and enjoyed getting the ball in space to allow him to stretch his legs and get us going forward. Teddy Bu and Leo came on in the second half and looked to get involved at every opportunity. Player of the match was Ethan who put in some tremendous last-ditch tackles on their very tall and versatile player. Apologies! Photo to follow - the boys ran in and got changed after their 1-1 match v the Blues!
The aforementioned Blue team were led by Raffi who began to organise them in defence better after each restart. There was some mazy running from Matthew, Jack and Ludo all of whom got their name on the team sheet. Faris worked exceptionally hard at the breakdown – often there first, to secure the ball after the tackle. Louis was a stalwart in defence, occasionally finding himself on the wrong side but really showed determination to get his opposite man down and never turned his back on the opposition. Freddie J was lively in midfield and seemed to enjoy getting hands on ball to carry it forward. There were two moments of the game – Faris being tackled by the Fettes player in the corner to save a certain try and then James M at the other end in the opposite corner doing exactly the same as he threw himself at the on-rushing winger and bundled him into touch. James also got a nice try by running the length of the field. It was terrific to see Freddie H step up to the U11 age group and he really made a big difference in defence and was the player of the game, not only for his ferocious tackling but his passing from the breakdown to spread the ball quickly on a few occasions was outstanding. We won the game 8-4.
