U11B Rugby beat Edinburgh Academy

An excellent team performance

A bit of a mixed team from Wednesday but still a group who was very ready to take on the damp Saturday before them. “My boots are flooded” was a common phrase exclaimed by the boys across the pitch as they ran, tackled, and slid around the grass. A win this great was definitely not a solo effort with all the boys forced to play a full game without substitutions against a deep bench and older rules.

The game got off to a strong start as they kicked off deep into our half and our captain Jack took the ball straight up through the middle. Freddie followed Jack’s lead and took on the game on the front foot, rucking hard to win the ball for Cargilfield. Teddy and Ludo were our outside backs for the game working hard down the sidelines and stepping inside as their boots tracked dangerously close to the touch line. Faris used his speed in the centre to beat defenders and make valuable metres for the team as we played a fast and aggressive attacking game, the best way to defend. This said, when we were put on the backfoot and forced to defend, William, Ethan, and James made tackle after tackle. The boys’ line speed and willingness to work together made the Cargilfield defence almost impenetrable.

All in, the boys played a fast and tiring game, holding their own against a team with endless substitutions and size by working together and encouraging each other. Talk on the field was great and I look forward to watching these boys again on Wednesday.
