What a close game!

U13B Hockey v St Mary’s

6-5 Loss

In a fiercely contested match, St Mary’s narrowly edged us out with a single goal separating the sides. It was a closely fought encounter, with both teams enjoying periods of possession, making for an exciting and even game.

We started brightly, controlling much of the ball in the first quarter. However, it was St Mary’s who capitalised on a moment of lost possession high up the field, converting a simple through ball to take the early lead. Despite the setback, Agus responded brilliantly in the second quarter, equalising with a well-taken goal after several attempts. Unfortunately, a running penalty from St Mary’s just before halftime saw them reclaim the lead.

The third quarter proved challenging, especially with the absence of Lottie. We conceded three goals during this period, but Florence provided a much-needed boost by pulling one back for us.

In the final quarter, Lottie returned to make an immediate impact, slotting a clinical goal into the corner during a running penalty. Despite our best efforts, St Mary’s managed to find the back of the net again. However, the highlight of the match came when Agus scored what could only be described as the goal of the game. She skilfully collected the ball in the D, but with multiple defenders closing in, she displayed great awareness to find Alice B in space on the right. Alice then delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Freya, who dribbled forward and laid it on a plate for Agus to finish with ease.

The girls worked tirelessly throughout the game, showing incredible determination. However, St Mary’s had the slight edge, thanks to their fluid passing and ability to find space by running ahead of the ball.

Standout performances came from Agus, Florence, and Lottie, with the latter being named Player of the Match by the opposition for her outstanding defensive display. A special mention also goes to Lily, who showed remarkable improvement this week.

Overall, it was a performance full of heart and determination, and it’s fantastic to see how much the girls have progressed in just a short time. Well done to everyone – I thoroughly enjoyed watching you all in action!
