1st Team Boys Hockey v George Watsons
Won 4-2
The excitement was palpable as the boys stepped onto the pitch for our pre-season game against Watsons. Everyone was buzzing to get started, eager to showcase their skills and teamwork.
The match began with a slow start in the first two quarters, allowing Watsons to apply pressure and test our structure. However, we managed to steady ourselves, settle into our rhythm, and play our brand of hockey. Despite several goal-scoring opportunities, their keeper was in outstanding form, making some brilliant saves to keep the score line at 0-0 going into halftime.
The third quarter saw a similar slow start, and unfortunately, Watsons capitalized on it. They drew us out of our structure, creating an opening to take the lead with a well-executed goal. Heading into the final quarter 1-0 down, the boys showed tremendous character and determination.
And then, everything clicked.
In an incredible six-minute spell, the team unleashed a masterclass in attacking hockey:
From 1-0 down to 4-1 up in just six minutes—a testament to the team’s resilience, skill, and teamwork.
At the other end of the pitch, Jamie W made some crucial saves in goal, keeping Watsons at bay. Across the field, every player contributed to this fantastic performance. However, Arthur P stood out as the Player of the Game, delivering a rock-solid defensive display and distributing the ball with precision and composure.
What a way to start the pre-season—and for me, what a way to finish my Cargilfield hockey coaching career. I couldn’t be prouder of the boys and their incredible effort today. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication. I wish you the very best of luck for the upcoming season.
Well done, team!
