1st Netball v Fettes
8-24 Loss
The first game of the season saw us travel to Fettes for what we anticipated would be a challenging match. With Fettes having played throughout the Autumn Term, we knew we were up against a well-prepared team. Our aim was to focus on our own game, emphasising precise passing and effective movement off the ball. Freya took on the responsibility of the coin toss and secured the center pass to start the match.
Fettes came out strong, immediately demonstrating their commitment to tight marking, which challenged our players to think creatively about dodging and movement. By the end of the first quarter, Fettes had established a 10-1 lead. During the team talk, we stressed the importance of reading the game better and anticipating the actions of the opposing players. We also emphasised the need for tighter man-to-man marking and maintaining awareness of the ball at all times.
The second quarter saw an improvement in our performance, with Lottie and Alice scoring 7 goals between them while Fettes added 5 to their total. The adjustments made during the break began to show, and the team’s confidence grew.
In the third and fourth quarters, the girls worked hard to keep the game’s pace fast, but passing became inconsistent at times. Some passes were rushed or misplaced, allowing Fettes to capitalise and regain possession.
Despite the challenges, the team showed determination and resilience throughout the match. This game provided valuable lessons that will undoubtedly help them improve as the season progresses. It was also lovely to see the friendships that the Fettes and Cargilfield girls have established with one another over the last couple of years.
