Well played, boys!

U13B Boys’ Hockey v Fettes

Won 6-0

The boys’ second team came out of the blocks very quickly this afternoon, scoring a number of goals in the first quarter through Jamie Mackenzie’s clinical finishing and some pacey and accurate build-up play.

Cargilfield were strong on the ball and, in taking free hits quickly, gained an advantage against a Fettes team that didn’t really know what had hit them. Fettes did recover but the ball speed and quality of passing continued to keep Cargilfield on top.

Wilf and Geordie made for a very solid pairing at the back and distributed well, especially as James started to pull wider and deeper to allow outlet balls which cut out the Fettes attack.

Arlo’s athleticism allowed him to dominate the middle of the pitch and he was well supported by Oliver and Leo who both covered the ground in midfield and for stints in attack.

I felt for Timothy. This was the second match of the afternoon in which his goalkeeping skills were under-used. There will be busier days and his agility will be called upon.

This was a very impressive team performance and, even if Mr Taylor’s counting skills leave something to be desired, the boys should feel confident about what the rest of the season holds for them.
