The boys enjoyed a competitive and physical game against Merchiston this afternoon. We started strongly with some good attacking play but couldn’t quite find the goal. The Merchiston keeper made 5 or 6 very good saves, we hit the post on one occasion and won a bunch of penalty corners…but couldn’t convert pressure into points.
Despite the frustration of not scoring, the boys kept playing and pressurizing the opposition D. The goal eventually came from a penalty corner, which was initially saved but then safely flicked home by Theo. The Merchiston boys forced their way back into the game and we found ourselves defending a lot in the final quarter. Jamie made some excellent saves but, from a seemingly impossible angle, a shot from wide out on the right rocketed into the side panel of the goal.
The remainder of the game was a tense, cagey affair, with both teams looking to counter attack, rather than keeping shape and letting the ball do the work. It looked as though we would score right at the end but, somehow, the ball didn’t cross the line.
Well played, boys.
