U13A Boys’ Hockey v Strathallan
Lost 3-1
With four regular A team players unavailable, this match provided an excellent opportunity for some F7 boys to step up, and they rose to the challenge admirably. Although the final score was a 3-1 loss, the team played some fantastic hockey and were unfortunate not to convert more of the chances they created.
The match was played in lovely sunny conditions, and both Wilf and Jack impressed with their composure at this higher level. Wilf, in particular, made some excellent jab tackles down the left side and linked well with Lochie in midfield. Lochie had a commanding presence in the centre, distributing the ball effectively and putting Theo through on goal several times. Theo came agonisingly close to scoring, only to be denied by an outstanding performance from Strathallan's goalkeeper, who made five or six superb saves.
Our short corners didn't quite click, while Strathallan benefited from a skilful player who demonstrated the ability to glide past defenders and find the net. Hamish worked tirelessly on the right, showing versatility by adapting well to the right wing-back role.
Arlo and Leonardo, fresh from playing for the 2s, stepped in to provide valuable support. Edward played with impressive attacking instinct on the left, showcasing his excellent stamina once again. Jamie M gave his all, working hard and striving to find space, though chances to shoot proved elusive. In goal, Jamie W marshalled his new defensive unit well, communicating clearly and making some important saves.
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. The team put together some excellent passages of play, and their teamwork and effort were commendable. Well done to all the boys for a super performance.
