Won 10-7
In rather damp conditions, our Under-11B boys faced their Belhaven hosts for half an hour of 8-a-side contact rugby on Wednesday. Belhaven scored seconds after the whistle sounded as Cargilfield were a bit slow switching up to match intensity. This was followed up with a second try for the hosts after an unfortunate knock-on ended our first attack. Nerves all settled, the boys began to get stuck in a little more and a wonderful rampaging run by Johnny (the first of many) put the first points on the board. In the first half, the tackling was a little below par, which resulted in numerous tries for both teams. After the break, Cargilfield made a greater effort to close down the space in defence, which resulted in more turnovers as the pressure on the opposition was more intense; excellently led by Oliver, who hassled his opponents almost as soon as they had caught the ball. Jamie’s tackling was marvellous and Arlo and Monty’s pace in attack kept the hosts on their back foot.
The boys strong showing in the second half tipped the game in their favour and they ended with a 10-7 win. Well done to the whole team.
